Lords of Winter

Since the earliest times humans have recorded encounters with weird, often frightening creatures. every civilization has its monster myths full of mystery, enchanted forests and realms of dark, forbidden magic. elusive chaotic spirits of night, darkness, winter and death - sacred and profane.

Monster stories are fascinating and scary but always somehow familiar – they represent the dark side of humanity beneath the tamed, educated and socially conditioned personalities we project. Somehow they remained hidden from the watchful eye of modern science. Philosophical or scientific – the reasons why monsters have such a hold over our culture are real.

Homegrown beasts include the Tokolosh (henchman of crafty witches) and the karoo mermaid aka Kaaiman who lounges beside deep mountain pools….
